ANDROMEDA RISING 1994, oil on canvas, 18 x 24 in. ARTIST'S COMMENT While under contract with Collector's Editions, I was encouraged to emphasize certain qualities of earlier paintings. In particular, my trademark juxtaposition of ethereal feminine figures with classical settings. In this picture, I was playing on a relationship between the classical and modern meanings of the name "Andromeda" - the character from classical mythology and the astronomical name for our galactic neighbor. The architecture in this painting is from the main lobby of San Francisco city hall. |
