ARTIST'S COMMENT

Since I painted this in 1985, it has been a perennial favorite among my greeting card images, but on the internet its popularity has far surpassed anything I'd have imagined. I receive more inquiries about this image than almost all others combined.

I suppose that the simple, uncomplicated depiction of refined feminine beauty in archetypal form strikes a chord that other more complex images miss.

Whenever I create a new painting, I usually think that it is only one of many like it that I could do. It takes the test of time to prove that one single painting can transcend its humble conception and take on a life of its own - by mere virtue of the fact that it is the one that I did do.

Inspired by all the special interest this image has received, I painted a newer version, ANGEL IN BLUE NO. 2.
