ASYLUM 1992, oil on canvas, 30 x40 in. ARTIST'S COMMENT Asylum can mean a place of either sanctuary or of imprisonment. After begnining to move into a moodier direction with ANTEDILUVUAN, I wanted to go a step further here. Although heroic in stance and stature, the winged bronze statue is frozen in her alcove while birds flutter around her to take refuge from the approaching storm. A paternal male presence looms overhead. |
