ARTIST'S COMMENT

While gaining a reputation as a fantasy illustrator, I wanted to test my skills as a serious painter. So, I selected this deceptively simple painting by Vermeer to see how well I could copy it. I even made the canvas the exact same size as the original. I learned that copying a painting is very different from painting an original. What were originally spontaneous brushstrokes had to be meticulously traced and filled. Nevertheless, I was pleased with the result.
